Parent Workshops
ROBOTICS IN MOTION FAMILY WORKSHOP
Workshop Description:
This workshop will provide parents with a deeper understanding of what their son/daughter will be learning through the use of the LEGO EV3 Mindstorm Robots. A brief overview of the unit will be provided, with an opportunity for parents and their child to program a robot to complete a mission! The EV3 Robots will be used with curriculum developed by Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Academy.
The Tiger Tech Art and Bots Hummingbird Workshop
Workshop Description:
This workshop will provide parents with a deeper understanding of what their son/daughter will be learning with the Hummingbird Robot in science and art class.
The Hummingbird Robotics Kit is a spin-off of a six year (and on-going) research project at Carnegie Mellon’s CREATE lab. The Hummingbird is designed to enable engineering and robotics activities for ages 10 and up that involve the making of robots, kinetic sculptures, and animatronics built out of a combination of kit parts and arts and crafts materials. Combined with several very easy-to-use visual programming environment, the Hummingbird provides a great way to introduce students to robotics and engineering with construction materials that they are already familiar with.
The Hummingbird Robotics Kit allows for unique and valuable project based learning in an everyday multidisciplinary classroom environment and has been classroom tested. The Hummingbird is being used in math, science, history, art, and technology classes at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, as well as by after school programs.
